Communion
The Eucharist is the bread of life, through it we celebrate and remember Jesus Christ. We come together as a community and break bread and eat together. The Eucharist is the source and summit of our Catholic faith.
For Children
Across the Archdiocese, children are required to be enrolled in formation of a catholic school or religious education program for two consecutive years prior to receiving First Communion. Children typically begin preparation in 1st grade and receive their First Communion in the spring of second grade.
While our program offers excellent religious education, as the primary catechists of their children, parents are encouraged to play an active role in their child's formation by completing at home activities with their child, which deepens their understanding of the Eucharist and the Mass.
Parents of children seeking to celebrate this sacrament should contact Coordinator of Religious Education, Emily Ember at eember@stalphonsuschicago.church or (773) 525-0709 ext. 2119.
For Adults
Eucharist is one of the three sacraments of initiation, together with Baptism and Confirmation. Adults seeking preparation to make their First Communion usually participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA).
Adults seeking to celebrate this sacrament should contact Pastoral Associate, Brooks Robinson at brobinson@stalphonsuschicago.church or (773) 525-0709 ext. 2111
