Young Adult Ministry

YoungAdultMinistryMission Statement

Our mission, simply stated, is to help one another participate in Christ’s mission, that we as young adult Catholics may be effective disciples, evangelists, and agents of charity in all that we do.

Recognizing our diverse interests, needs, gifts, and talents, we coordinate opportunities to foster the many aspects of our lives: the spiritual, that we may grow in relationship with God; the intellectual, that we may know Him and ourselves; the social, that we may build supportive communities and lasting friendships; and the charitable, that we may direct our blessings in service of others. By supporting these pillars of our Christian lives, YAM seeks to build a generation of faithful, joyful leaders working for the good of the Church and one another.

Be social. Be spiritual. Be charitable. Be intellectual. Be Catholic.

newsletter_tileYou can check out our monthly calendar here. There is also a monthly newsletter, featuring the latest activities. You can subscribe to it by clicking the link above or the tile on the left side of this page.

A great way to connect with others is to join the monthly Cocktails After Church group (fourth Sunday of the month), which goes to a local establishment for drinks and dinner after the 5:00 PM Sunday mass.

Views from the Veranda (Theology on Tap)

Every July, Young Adult Ministry organizes Theology on Tap/Views from the Veranda. Our signature summer event takes place every Wednesday in July. We combine great speakers, fine refreshments, good company and summer breezes. Save the dates and plan to join us!  In June, the upcoming schedule of speakers will be available on the web site and in the bulletin.

To volunteer, contact Michael.

There are two retreats offered each year. Check the website and the bulletin for details.

  • Fall overnight retreat at a retreat center
  • Spring one-day retreat at St. Alphonsus

Social Opportunities

Speed Dating is always a sell-out. This event, held in the fall, is a great opportunity to make new friends – and possibly meet ‘the one.’

The Volleyball League starts in the winter and continues through early spring. Sign ups are available in church in the weeks before play begins.

There is a YAM Jam event, held every spring.

Resources for Young Adults

St. Alphonsus partners with Charis Ministries for a number of events. Charis, a Jesuit outreach, offers a number of retreat opportunities, as well as ongoing spiritual direction.

Busted Halo, an outreach of the Paulists, is an online resource aimed at young adults.

The Young Adult Ministry office of the Archdiocese offers a number of events.
