Baptisms for infants and children up to the age of seven are celebrated on most Sundays at 1:30 PM. (Some celebrations are scheduled at 2:30 PM as well.)
We ask for first time Catholic parents & godparents to attend a baptism preparation class. Preparation classes are normally held once a month on Wednesday evenings. Godparents can attend their local home town parish and/or come to our class here at St. Alphonsus. Contact Linda Herrera in the parish office at 773-525-0709, ext.101 for scheduling purposes.
It is required to have at least one Catholic godparent (who is confirmed and over the age of 16.) A non-Catholic, baptized Christian may share in the responsibilities with a Catholic godparent and is considered a Christian witness. In keeping with our faith tradition, godparents are one male and one female. If considering two godparents of the same gender, we ask you to ask permission.
To register your infant for a baptism, use this form. For further information, contact Linda Herrera in the parish office at 773-525-0709, ext.101.
If the child is older than seven years old, contact Connie Mottley for more information. Once a child has reached school age, the process is different than for an infant.
Students in the second grade (who have completed the first year program) are prepared for the sacraments of penance (reconciliation) and Eucharist as part of their class sessions.
These class sessions are in conjunction with the formation which they receive with their families. The most important preparation children can receive for the Eucharist is to be regular participants at Sunday mass.
In addition to Sunday mass and classes, there is a Reconciliation Family Night in January and a Family First Eucharist retreat in the spring.
View the Religious Education/Sacrament Program Calendar.

Confirmation is celebrated in the spring. Most students will be confirmed in eighth grade, having completed the three year confirmation preparation sequence. (Students beginning the preparation after sixth grade begin with Confirmation I and complete all three years.)
Candidates are expected to be part of the worshiping community, coming to mass each Sunday. As Confirmation marks one’s full initiation into the Church, it is expected that anyone wishing this is a practicing Catholic.
During all three years, students keep a journal chronicling their practice of the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.

Some begin this process as inquirers, trying to determine if they will indeed decide to be Catholic. Others have already decided. Our goal is to help everyone come to a clear decision, with the hope that they will discover their call to be a disciple of Christ in the Church.
To begin the process, use this form to contact Rev. Michael O’Connell on the parish staff and we will determine how we can best help you.
Every year, about 150 couples prepare for marriage at St. Alphonsus. About half are married here, and the others prepare here and celebrate their marriages in other parishes.
If you are interested in getting married at St. Alphonsus, please read our wedding package information, then fill out our marriage request form. We will schedule an initial meeting with you soon after registering, which will give you all the information you need. After registering, you can use our marriage checklist to track your progress in preparing for your wedding.
